With the increase in remote working proving that it’s possible to do your job on flexible hours without constant supervision, will now be the time that employers finally wake up and stop using loopholes in the system to legally dismiss pregnant employees? Probably not. But here’s why treating new mothers as a corporate burden is not only cruel, it’s also a mistake that could be detrimental to the success of your business.

If, like me, you’ve just experienced a minor breakdown as a result of the constant barrage of apocalyptic news, doomsday forecasts, pandemic panic, Trump existing, racists in positions of power, rapists protected by the government, child murderers working in your local pub, social justice warriors being offended, and boomers commenting on social media, then it might be time to change your relationship with the internet.

24-hour news channels need to fuck off for a start. It wasn’t so long ago that we got our news three times a day in 30 minute bursts: The morning news, lunchtime news, and evening…

I think I felt the first nibble of despair when Trump got elected. I barely understood how he had managed to become a candidate, but I tried to justify voter behaviour with perhaps the novelty of having another celebrity in politics. However, I was sure that once he opened his mouth, people would be like “Woah, okay no.”

When he did open his mouth, I was in utter disbelief. It was like a parody, I thought it was an elaborate prank, so when he actually won the election, I had to completely re-evaluate my understanding of human beings. …

Two months ago I found out I was pregnant with our first child after our first time trying. Two weeks later I found out that the pregnancy had failed. Five weeks later and I was still carrying my failed pregnancy around, waiting for it to abort itself whilst trying to act normal.

Google told me that one in five pregnancies end in miscarriage, so I was not a special case, if anything I was pretty normal, but it seemed surprising to me that 20% of women have experienced a miscarriage and yet I knew of no one who’d had one.

ATCK (Adult Third Culture Kid): Someone who, as a child, spent a significant period of time in one or more culture(s) other than their own, thus integrating elements of those cultures and their own birth culture into a unique third culture.

If, like me, you were brought up outside of your passport country and lived a rather nomadic childhood, you may have found that you struggle with the concept of home and often wonder if the lonely search for that warm, fuzzy place will ever have a happy ending.

TLDR; Stop looking, you’ll never find it — because home for…

After a particularly heavy weekend in Rome that saw me relegated to the toilet for longer than is polite, it occurred to me that I have been drinking pretty much every weekend since the age of 14. That’s almost a quarter of a century of jagermeister, beer, red wine, consequent hangovers, junk food, and existential crises.

It’s kind of gross. My last baby tooth was yanked out by my drunk-ass self in a Paceville toilet, and since then my liver has been under permanent attack. Once, at the ripe old age of 15, and all in one night, I drank…

We’ve all been there. An array of different adults asking us as 16-year-olds what we want to do for the rest of our lives in the lead up to the university application process — and most of us say the same thing a decade later when we are the deflated, defeated shells of our former selves: “How was I supposed to know what I wanted to do when I was 16? I couldn’t even decide on my favourite Pokémon. It’s really unfair to put that kind of pressure on someone so young.”

I used to believe this too; that kids…
